CHAPTER 14. THE UPRATCHETING


USING a lot of colored pencils and pastel chalks, Mr. Cleave draws up any number of ratcheted-up waitress outfits, with amazing rapidity. His assistants bring these visions into three-dimensional reality on the mean waitress' body. Mr. Cleave's toadies look over his shoulder, clapping their hands and cooing in aesthetic ecstasy.

"I'd eat here if she brought the stuff to me."

"Really?"

"Well, no. But you know what I mean."
